Milky Way Navigation and the Cygnus Constellation
The Milky Way served as a celestial path for ancient shamans to reach the "Sky World" via specific leap-off points in the zodiac. Approximately 17,000 years ago, the precession of the equinoxes aligned the celestial pole with the Cygnus constellation, making it appear as the center of a cosmic propeller. Alignments at Karahantepe suggest that practitioners used the summer solstice sunset to time their observations of the Cygnus Dark Rift for ritual navigation.
