Shamanistic Methods and Sumerian Mushroom Tablets
Evidence from cuneiform tablets in a Berlin museum suggests the Sumerians used shamanistic methods to commune with the gods. These mushroom-shaped tablets contain prayers and were placed in temple walls as conduits for spiritual communication. Additionally, the "Joy Plant" or opium poppy was used in the "Hul Gil" rite to anoint kings and facilitate contact with the Apkallu sages.
