Ufologists like Jacques Vallée and Ingo Swann are noted for their interest in Marian apparitions, such as the 1917 Miracle of Fatima. From an Orthodox perspective, these are viewed as manifestations of "prelust" or spiritual delusion. The theory presented is that a fake "Mother Mary" or cosmic goddess may be staged to "save" the world from a purposefully exposed AI technocracy.

George P. Hansen reflects on Martin Cannon's book The Controllers, which posits that UFO experiences are products of government mind control.
