Supersonic Shockwaves and the Lambda Structure in Geology
The geological formation of mountains is linked to the "lambda structure," a tetrahedral shape formed when supersonic winds hit an obstruction and create shockwaves. Hall explains that these shockwaves create high-pressure zones where dust loads are dropped and electrostatically glued to the ground due to ionization. This phenomenon is compared to "shock diamonds" seen in the exhaust of supersonic jets and rockets.
