Alien and UFO imagery often symbolizes things that are "foreign" or outside the scope of a dreamer's normal experience. Historically, these dreams increased during the Cold War as a manifestation of the fear that ICBMs could drop from the sky at any moment. Modern interpretations often link alien abductions to fears of being upended or separated from one's family and familiar environment.

The National Security Establishment views UFO activity near military and nuclear installations as a direct threat to human sovereignty. Joseph Farrell argues that planners likely revisited ancient legends, such as the Tower of Babel, to understand why "gods" intervene to keep humanity suppressed. This realization allegedly led to a secret, long-term effort to develop defensive capabilities and maintain independence from non-human interference.

Robert Salas recounts the events of March 24, 1967, at Oscar Flight near Great Falls, Montana, where a glowing red object hovered over a missile launch facility. During the sighting, ten Minuteman intercontinental ballistic missiles became disabled due to guidance and control system failures. The interference targeted specific logic couplers despite triple-shielded cabling, suggesting an intelligent attempt to send a message regarding nuclear disarmament.

The Nedelin Catastrophe is detailed as a 1960 Soviet Union nuclear-age accident that remained classified for 30 years. During a test of a new ICBM, a corrosive fuel leak led to a massive fireball on the launch pad, killing approximately 150 to 250 people through fire, fumes, and entrapment in perimeter defenses.
