Topic: False Memories

The False Memory Syndrome Foundation is criticized for its role in dismissing claims of ritual abuse during the "Satanic Panic" era. Founding member Ralph Underwager, an expert witness in hundreds of cases, faced backlash for controversial statements regarding the effects of pedophilia. The organization included various influential academics and researchers who lobbied against mandatory reporting laws for child abuse.

The psychiatric profession's history with childhood sexual abuse transitioned from total denial to acknowledging its prevalence. Regarding Satanic Ritual Abuse (SRA), the lack of hard objective court evidence for multi-generational cults leaves two possibilities: the accounts are false memories or the groups are extremely well-guarded at high levels of society. While individual crimes with satanic themes exist, high-level organized pedophile rings with occult themes remain difficult to prove legally.

The False Memory Syndrome Foundation is criticized as a front for individuals with ties to MKUltra and child abuse. Founders Pamela Freyd and her husband were accused of abuse by their daughter, while prominent member Ralph Underwager was forced to resign after making pro-pedophilia statements in a Dutch magazine.
