Greg observes a massive boom in hospital construction in rural Tampa, despite declining life expectancy and high malpractice rates. He compares the hospital business model to a predatory oil change, where patients are loaded with unnecessary tests and drugs. He laments the lack of a professional framework for alternative treatments like Essiac tea, Rick Simpson oil, and black salve, which forces people to self-medicate without clinical guidance.

Real-world events frequently mirror X-Files plotlines, such as Kyle Odom's White House fence jumping mirroring the episode "Three Words." Other instances include UFO investigator Max Spears reportedly coughing up black liquid before his death and hacker Gary McKinnon discovering "off-world" files in Pentagon systems. These events suggest a piercing of the veil between fictional narratives and physical reality.

The "Black Goo" is described as a sentient, abiotic life form found in a cave on South Thule Island. Olson claims the 1982 Falklands War was a cover for "Operation Keyhole," a British mission to retrieve this substance from an Argentine research base. According to the discussion, the goo is a programmable matter that can rapidly clone organisms and was originally brought to Earth by extraterrestrials as a biological fail-safe.
