Vandenberg categorizes modern science into three groups: real scientists who acknowledge their ignorance, popular science that claims absolute knowledge, and "fantasy science" based on misunderstandings. He argues that even mainstream science contains fantasy elements, such as the belief that the sun is a nuclear bomb or that the Earth has an iron core.

The "Sierra Camp" case features audio recordings from the 1970s of unsettling, non-human sounds that were analyzed by university professors. The analysis concluded the sounds were outside the human vocal range and not from any known animal. Paulides notes that the Forest Service eventually forced the hunters to dismantle their long-standing log structure in 2014, and he mentions that his team saw no animals during their week-long filming at the site.
