Tuberculosis, P.H. Bryce and School Conditions
A 1907 report by Dr. P.H. Bryce revealed that tuberculosis death rates in residential schools were nearly seven times higher than in the general population due to poor construction and lack of care. Bryce's findings challenged the "racial susceptibility" theories of the time, placing the blame on government standards. After the government suppressed his report, Bryce published his findings independently in the book "The Story of a National Crime."
