Topic: Austin Osman Spare

Austin Osman Spare was an influential English artist and mystic who brought magic into the 20th century by developing a free-form version of sigil magic. Unlike the complex rites of the aristocratic elite, Spare’s approach was rooted in the working-class "cockney mystic" tradition of London. His work significantly influenced modern figures like Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin and provided a counterpoint to the corrupted magical orders of the Third Reich.

Alex Boleyn explains the core tenets of Chaos Magic, focusing on the imposition of will and the creation of reality through intention. He describes the process of sigil work, popularized by Austin Osman Spare, which involves condensing a written intention into a unique magical symbol. By focusing on and then forgetting the sigil, the practitioner aims to bypass the conscious mind to influence the universe or the subconscious.
