The discussion explores the link between Cybele, often worshipped as a meteorite or "stone from heaven," and Mithras, who is traditionally depicted as being born from a rock. Twyman suggests these myths represent a form of panspermia or the manifestation of a deity from a cosmic egg. She references scholars like Franz Cumont and Jesse Weston to support the historical connection between these two mystery cults.

The worship of Cybele was centered on a sacred rock, often theorized to be a meteorite or an object of panspermic origin. Some researchers suggest the Black Stone of the Kaaba in Mecca may be related to the original Cybele stone. This concept involves the idea of a "hermaphroditic rock" that fell from heaven, containing the seeds of life and serving as a portal or egg for the manifestation of deities.
