Topic: Afeni Shakur

Tupac Shakur, the son of high-ranking Black Panthers, was a political leader before his rap career, aiming to politicize gangs and establish peace truces. His efforts to stop gang-related drug dealing threatened the profits of CIA-linked traffickers and major banks laundering drug money. This activism led to multiple assassination attempts by police and intelligence-linked groups throughout the early 1990s.

Mr. Gates details the background of Tupac Shakur, noting his birth to a Black Panther mother and his upbringing in a politically charged environment. He discusses Tupac's transition from a backup dancer for Digital Underground to a solo artist and actor in the film Juice. The dichotomy in his music is attributed to the conflicting influences of his mother's activism and her struggle with addiction.
