Youtube Comments comes up in 3 chapters across 3 episodes of The Higherside Chats Free Show, from July 2020 to July 2026.
Ross Perot, 1992 Presidential Election Public Memory
Andy Hunt describes the surprise of younger viewers regarding the 1992 presidential run of Ross Perot. Despite being a major front-page news story at the time, many commenters on his channel expressed total unfamiliarity with the event, highlighting a generational gap in historical knowledge.
YouTube comments were disabled following the Angela Davis episode due to an influx of racial slurs and harassment directed at guests. The host also responds to one-star iTunes reviews, many of which are based on single episodes or complaints about the paywall. He compares his subscription model to mainstream shows like Coast to Coast AM, noting that independent creators require direct support to remain viable and ad-free.
YouTube Comment Removal and Plus Member Exclusivity
The host announces the permanent disabling of comments on the Higher Side Chats YouTube channel to eliminate trolling and "cesspool" feedback. Following a suggestion from Twitter followers, Carlwood will now reserve commenting privileges for Plus members on the show's website. This move is intended to drive listeners away from YouTube and toward the dedicated podcast infrastructure.
