Richard Dolan cautions against "knee-jerk conspiratorialism" that sees every figure as controlled opposition. He points to historical whistleblowers like Victor Marchetti, Bill Binney, and Edward Snowden as examples of individuals who worked within the system but took genuine risks to expose illegalities. Dolan argues that there are always divergent factions and opinions even within the upper echelons of the establishment and the media.

Jay Dyer interprets the Marian apparitions at Fatima as a psychological operation designed to mobilize Catholics against Russia for geopolitical ends. He argues that the "errors of Russia" mentioned in the prophecy were actually exported from London bankers, yet the apparition conveniently targeted the West's chief geopolitical rival. References to Victor Marchetti's work suggest that intelligence agencies have historically considered staging supernatural events to influence local populations.
