Trauma surgeon Steve Heim was skiing in a blizzard in Colorado when he felt an overwhelming, inexplicable urge to climb up a mountain in the wrong direction. He discovered an unconscious skier buried in a snow well and performed emergency stabilization until the ski patrol arrived. Heim, who had previously felt guilt over failing to save his father during a similar skiing accident, viewed the event as a divine intervention that saved both the victim and his own conscience.
