Secret societies were originally intended to preserve human knowledge during dark ages, but a schism occurred between "illuminators" and "captivators." The illuminators act as guides toward self-actualization, while the captivators (the Illuminati) use the same tools to bind humanity to false realities and "simulated chaos." This counter-clock world, or "stereoma," was a concept discussed by Gnostics and author Philip K. Dick.
