Topic: Southern France

The historical slaughter of the Cathars by the Catholic Church is examined as a primary example of state and religious propaganda. Estimates suggest between 200,000 and one million people were killed during the Inquisition, which began as a tool to seize land and control the population in Southern France. The phrase "kill them all and let God sort them out" is attributed to the Bishop of Toulouse during this period of centralized church expansion.

The mystery of the Cathar treasure and the "liminal spaces" of Southern France are discussed, specifically the area around Mont Ségur. Miguel Conner mentions filmmaker Richard Stanley's work with natural portals and rituals that induce altered states without drugs. The discussion also references Patrice Chaplin’s research into secret societies and portals in Southern Spain and France, suggesting the region possesses a unique energetic quality that attracted the Templars and Cathars.
