Bonobo Chimpanzees as a Non-Aggressive Social Model
The Bonobo chimpanzee serves as an alternative model to the aggressive, patriarchal common chimpanzee. Bonobo society is characterized by frequent, nonchalant sexual interactions that function as a "handshake" to prevent conflict and reduce aggression. Unlike common chimps, where dominant males use violence to control females, female Bonobos band together to defend one another, creating a more egalitarian social structure.
