Punic Wars and the North African Connection to Baal Hamon
The trump cards of the Sola Busca deck feature Roman generals involved in the Punic Wars against Carthage. This geographical focus points toward North Africa and the Carthaginian deity Baal Hamon, who was historically associated with child sacrifice. Adams argues that the deck's imagery is a forceful reinforcement of this dark connection, linking the elite lineage to these ancient sacrificial practices.
