COVID-19 as an Inverted Greek Animal Sacrifice
Steven Crimey maps the stages of a traditional Greek animal sacrifice onto the events of the COVID-19 pandemic. He identifies Event 201 as the "invocation," hand-washing with Purell as an "inverted ablution," and lockdowns as an "anti-procession." He further argues that the death of George Floyd served as a public sacrifice that was "garlanded" and elevated into a superhero-like icon to tear the culture apart.
