Hierarchy of Thai Spirits and Deities
The Thai spirit world is categorized into various levels, ranging from "Hungry Ghosts" and floating heads to the powerful "Phi Tai Hong"—spirits of those who died violently or while pregnant. These spirits are often used in the amulet system to provide supernatural protection or attraction. Above these ghosts are the "Rishi" (ancient sages), important monks, and high-level deities that serve as conduits for magical power.
