Ryan Peverly | Wilhelm Reich, Orgone Energy, & The Emotional Plague Of Mankind
Wilhelm Reich's Early Life and Break from Freudian Dogma
The discussion explores Wilhelm Reich's early personal trauma, including his mother's affair and subsequent suicide in 1910, which influenced his entry into psychoanalysis. While Reich initially followed Sigmund Freud in Vienna starting in 1919, he eventually broke away from Freudian dogma regarding the Oedipus complex. Peverly notes that Freud often projected personal issues into his theories, leading both Reich and Carl Jung to seek independent paths in energy research.
