Researchers like Monica Gagliano and Stefano Mancuso are demonstrating that higher-order plants possess intelligence, memory, and the ability to learn without a traditional brain. Plants exhibit swarm intelligence and social behaviors, such as sharing nutrients with elderly stumps through fungal networks. This scientific shift suggests that consciousness may eventually be recognized in even more "inert" forms of matter like rocks.

Monica Gagliano's book, Thus Spoke the Plant, describes how her scientific experiments were inspired by messages received from plant spirits during shamanic diet retreats. By spending time in the wilderness and consuming specific barks or roots, she established a psychic collaboration with the plants. This interaction provided the novel ideas necessary for validating plant intelligence within a laboratory setting.

The conversation explores plant cognition and the specific entity known as Mother Ayahuasca. Gordon White distinguishes between the "machine elf" realm of smoked DMT and the cosmic healing presence of the ayahuasca spirit invoked through traditional Icaros songs. He notes a spectrum of experiences, mentioning how some participants witnessed mantid-like entities performing psychic surgery, which bridges the gap between different entheogenic states.
