British South Africa Company, Cecil Rhodes and Zimbabwe Conquest
Nathan Rothschild and Cecil Rhodes partnered in 1889 to form the British South Africa Company (BSAC) with the approval of the British Crown. Using the Maxim gun, the first fully automatic machine gun, BSAC forces invaded Zimbabwe and killed over 50,000 native people to seize territory. The region was renamed Rhodesia after Cecil Rhodes and remained under corporate and later Crown control for decades.
