The work of Charles Fort is credited for preserving 19th-century reports of "damned facts," including bizarre luminous pinwheels or light wheels observed under the water. These massive rotating structures, often hundreds of yards in diameter, have been reported by ship captains in the Strait of Malacca and the Persian Gulf. Fort speculated that these phenomena might indicate alien civilizations operating from underwater bases.
