In July 1942, fishermen discovered her body in Lake Crescent, notable for a hand sticking vertically out of the water. Due to the unique chemical conditions of the lake, her body had undergone saponification, turning into a soap-like substance known as adipocere, which preserved her remains as a "statue" for years.
