Fox Network, Briscoe County Jr and Demographic Ratings
The X-Files was initially considered a "sacrificial lamb" by the Fox network, which expected "The Adventures of Briscoe County Jr." to be its breakout hit. The show survived low early ratings because it captured a highly desirable 18-49 demographic with disposable income. Creator Chris Carter drew heavy inspiration from the older series "Kolchak: The Night Stalker."
