Bob Cornell, Mackenzie River Fishing Stories in ICU
Dr. John Messitt attempted to reach his colleague, Dr. Bob Cornell, who was in a deep coma following a massive stroke. Messitt sat by the bedside and told detailed stories about fishing for grayling in the Mackenzie River in Canada, despite the medical staff believing Cornell was brain dead. Cornell eventually woke up and thanked Messitt, claiming the stories provided the encouragement he needed to choose to return to life.
