Legend of Lao Tzu, Origins of Tao Te Ching
Daniele Bolelli recounts the semi-mythical origins of the Tao Te Ching and its attributed author, Lao Tzu. According to legend, Lao Tzu was an imperial librarian who was forced by a border guard to write down his wisdom before being allowed to retire into the mountains. Bolelli notes that while the story is likely 99% legend, it serves as a humorous foundation for the text's 81 poems.
