Harold Urey, Alton Ochsner and the 1961 Science Meeting
In 1961, Judith Vary Baker crashed an American Cancer Society press briefing in Florida, where she met Dr. Alton Ochsner and Nobel laureate Harold Urey. Urey, a key figure in the original Manhattan Project, was reportedly traveling with Ochsner to consult on the use of radiation in the New Orleans virus experiments. This meeting solidified Baker's entry into the high-level clandestine medical research community.
