Creating a hoax of the MH370 footage would require a level of technical expertise and classified knowledge unavailable to the public in 2014. The videos feature accurate volumetric clouds, 3D stereoscopic imagery requiring two specific satellites, and a frame rate difference indicating a recorded Citrix session. A potential hoaxer would have had only four days to produce these original works, which correctly depict the turn radius of a Boeing 777 and specific weather conditions in the Nicobar Islands.

The leaked footage appears to be a screen recording of a Citrix session rather than a direct file export or a handheld camera recording. Analysis of the mouse movements suggests the leaker was an operator who cropped the field of view to protect specific military assets while providing enough data to identify the location and event. Forbes posits that the leaker acted out of an emotional reaction to seeing the event, intending to ensure the truth reached the public.
