San Diego UFO Hoax, Chinese Lanterns and Media Reaction
Marie D. Jones recounts a specific UFO hoax in northern San Diego County involving sophisticated Chinese lanterns that fooled the public and media. She reflects on the pre-cellphone era when capturing high-quality video of anomalies was difficult compared to the modern abundance of YouTube footage. Despite the increase in recording devices, she estimates that 99.9% of modern sightings are misidentifications.
