Despite his Chinese and Vietnamese heritage, Alon Nu describes himself as culturally American, having been born in San Francisco during the "Age of Aquarius." He credits his interest in the paranormal to his father, a librarian at the Library of Congress, who brought home books by Frank Edwards and Vincent Gaddis. These readings on UFOs and the Loch Ness Monster sparked a lifelong fascination with strange phenomena that eventually led him to magic.
