Topic: Swamp Monster

The Bishopville Lizard Man sightings occurred primarily between 1988 and 1991, a period researchers refer to as a "flap." Blackburn highlights several credible accounts, including a sighting by an Air Force Colonel and reports from local residents dating back to 1987. Sheriff Liston Truesdale managed the investigation, which saw a surge in media coverage from major networks like CBS and Good Morning America.

Following the success of his book on the Fouke Monster of Arkansas, Blackburn conducted a tour of Southern swamps to investigate regional legends. His research in Bishopville revealed significant inaccuracies in previous accounts and Wikipedia entries, leading him to write a dedicated book on the subject. He compares the allure of these sightings to classic cinema like "Creature from the Black Lagoon."

The discussion expands to other reptilian and amphibian cryptids, including the Thetis Lake monster in British Columbia and the Loveland Frog in Ohio. Blackburn also mentions Momo, the Missouri Monster, and the Honey Island Swamp Monster near New Orleans. These cases often involve isolated sightings that rarely receive mainstream media attention beyond occasional Bigfoot hoaxes.
