Dr. Brown shares the history of the "pedoscope," a radiation box used in shoe stores until 1970 to help children see their toes wiggle for a better fit. Despite the dangers of radiation being known since 1927, it took over 40 years for these devices to be banned in most states. This is used as a parallel to the tobacco industry to illustrate how long it takes for known health hazards to be officially addressed.
