Topic: Selden Talcott

Selden Talcott’s Middletown Hospital utilized "moral care" and homeopathy, featuring unique treatments like baseball therapy to help mentally ill patients. This stood in stark contrast to the Utica Asylum under Amariah Brigham, which used the "Utica crib," a restrictive wooden coffin, to punish and break the spirits of patients. The term "unhinged" originated from the experience of being released from these traumatic restraints.
