Sylvie Ivanova describes her recent field research in the region north of Rome, Italy, where she observed thousands of undocumented rock-cut ruins. She notes that many modern roads are built directly on top of ancient infrastructure, including structures that resemble large garages or train tunnels. Similar track markings have been identified in a belt stretching from Portugal to China and recently in Turkey.
