William James and the "White Crow" of Mediumship
Dr. Shushan discusses his work editing the writings of William James, the founder of American psychology, regarding psychical research. James famously used the "white crow" metaphor to argue that proving even one medium—such as Mrs. Leonora Piper—was genuine would disprove the law that "all crows are black" (i.e., that the supernatural is impossible). James investigated mediumship, telepathy, and demonic possession, viewing them as legitimate areas of psychological study.
