Ross Ulbricht, Silk Road and Selective Justice
The prosecution of Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht is presented as a travesty of justice where the defendant was barred from mentioning law enforcement malfeasance during his trial. While Ulbricht created a marketplace for contraband, his consecutive life sentences are viewed as disproportionate and intended to protect the government's monopoly on illegal trade. His eventual release by the Trump administration is seen as a move to gain political goodwill from the libertarian community.
