Harper refines the concept of the daimon, distinguishing fate from fatalism and suggesting that we are drawn toward a destiny from the future rather than being determined by the past. He cites the Inuit practice of naming children after ancestral daimons as an example of this living tradition. He argues that the true role of psychotherapy should be akin to a "witch doctor" helping a patient re-establish contact with their personal daimon to find meaning.
