Patrick Harpur | The Secret Tradition Of The Soul & The Philosopher’s Secret Fire
Deities Behind Modern Social Movements
Harper uses mythological figures to explain modern ideologies and social shifts. He identifies the "Great Mother" or Hera as the goddess behind materialism due to her single-mindedness and jealousy of other perspectives. He further characterizes the shift from 1950s domesticity to modern feminism as a transition from the influence of Hebe (the servant) to Athena (the independent, intellectual warrior born from Zeus).
