Tess Clark details how European monarchs like Queen Elizabeth I and King Louis XIV claimed personal control over celestial bodies and weather events to solidify their power. Louis XIV, known as the Sun King, modeled Versailles as a "New Heliopolis" and identified himself with the planet Jupiter. These claims often coincided with actual cosmic disturbances, allowing rulers to take credit for the departure of comets or the cessation of storms.
