Trans-Pacific Partnership, Fast Track Authority Legislation
The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is moving toward becoming law following the passage of "fast track" authority by Congress. This legislative mechanism prevents Congress from amending trade agreements, limiting them to a simple up-or-down vote and effectively surrendering legislative power to the executive branch. Fast track authority is set to remain in effect through 2021, covering the remainder of the Obama administration and the first term of the succeeding president.
