Dr. Jeffrey J. Kripal | The Super Natural, Religious Experience, & A Hermeneutics Of The Imagination
Psychedelic Renaissance, Animism and Monotheistic Conflict
Dr. Kripal expresses concern regarding the modern "psychedelic renaissance" and its pharmaceutical orientation, noting that many drug-induced experiences are inherently animist. He highlights the historical and often violent clash between Western monotheism and magical or animist practices involving plants. The resistance to paranormal phenomena is framed as an unconscious rejection of metaphysical positions that threaten the dominant worldview.
