Dr. Jeffrey J. Kripal | The Super Natural, Religious Experience, & A Hermeneutics Of The Imagination
The Split Self, Dreams and Comparative Belief
Dr. Kripal uses the dream state as a metaphor for the "split" that occurs during religious or paranormal events, where a part of the self interacts with another part as if it were ontologically separate. He explains that as a comparativist, he recognizes that different belief systems—whether involving the Virgin Mary, UFOs, or Hindu gods—can all produce real physical effects like healing. The efficacy of belief is acknowledged without endorsing a single "true" mythology.
