Black Angel of Death, Legend Tripping and the Gates of Hell
The practice of "legend tripping" is discussed, where individuals visit cursed sites like the Black Angel of Death in Iowa City or the "Gates of Hell" in Collinsville, Illinois, to provoke spirits. Chad Lewis notes a trend of people seeking out these "dares" to validate paranormal claims, despite the potential for negative psychological or physical outcomes. He shares a personal story of receiving a rare speeding ticket the day after visiting a cursed statue, questioning the link between the event and the legend.
