Bell cites W.B. Sibley’s 1913 book regarding the discovery of Masonic emblems in the foundation of Cleopatra's Needle in Alexandria. This obelisk was transported to New York's Central Park in 1880 using a specially constructed vessel. The ritualistic nature of its transport and the presence of these symbols are used as evidence by some scholars that Freemasonry, or its precursor traditions, existed at least a century before Christ.

Esoteric tradition holds that the Great Pyramid and modern obelisks, such as Cleopatra's Needle in London and its twin in New York, were designed to draw down great spiritual beings into the material world. Booth notes that Freemasons erected these obelisks at specific times to mark the end of the Dark Age and invite the influence of Saint Michael. He also mentions that complex music, like Mozart's Requiem, can provide a "body" of vibration for spirits to inhabit.
