Aqua Bounty, Genetically Modified Frankenfish Salmon
Canadian authorities have approved the commercial production of genetically modified salmon eggs created by Aqua Bounty. These "frankenfish" are engineered with genes from two other species to grow twice as fast as wild Atlantic salmon, reaching maturity in 16 months instead of 30. U.S. regulators are also in the final stages of approving the fish for sale in supermarkets and restaurants.
