Higherside Meetups Website Launch for Community Building
A new community-focused website, Higherside Meetups, has launched to help listeners organize local in-person gatherings. Developed by Aaron from Colorado, the platform aims to combat social isolation and fracturing within Western society by connecting like-minded individuals. The site features a simplified submission process for hosts and an RSVP system to help gauge attendance at local venues like bars and breweries.

00:00 Alright guys, hope everyone is striving and thriving out there. I wanted to take a minute to make an announcement that felt important enough for it to be its own thing Recently i put out the call for some help in getting a new website, The Hireside Meetups up and running And Aaron, the web developer from Colorado who we've heard from on the joint sessions and also helped Ross Ben give his website an upgrade came through. Now it is ready for its big reveal! The importance of finding local people who are on your ideological page has never been more obvious in our lifetimes
00:39 I hope we don't all just ultimately silo off into our own little bubbles, but Western society is changing. Friend groups and families are fracturing And i know at least for us at the San Diego meetup it was just cool to have something like THC in common A lot of people just wanted to vent and vibe and not have to worry about speaking their mind in full And it was a breath of fresh air for quite a few people. That is the primary feedback I've gotten about it So, I really wanted to make sure we jumped on the opportunity to set up a system for meetups across the country and the world really The first meetup is already on the board and its in Sweden apparently Pretty unexpected but very cool
01:25 And it's not a very complicated website. In fact, it's a pretty shameless clone of other meetup sites but the important thing is that it works and you guys can get started gathering the tribe Just go to highersidemeetups.com make yourself an account and submit a meetup to be added to the calendar It's pretty easy process doesn't require a lot of information and don't overthink it Being the one to set up something like this can feel like there's some kind of pressure, but there isn't really. Just pick a local bar or brewery or restaurant that you like probably a place with plenty of open space to move around freely and without any loud music and there's no reason to coordinate with the venue itself I did that in San Diego and it only complicated things
02:13 If you pick the right place and you're gonna go there with a friend or two anyway, just throw it on the calendar and see what happens. You'll probably get some RSVPs and might make five or ten new friends! And if nobody comes well... ...you were going to get a drink with your buddy anyway right? That is important to note that you won't be left guessing There is an RSVP feature and I want us to use it. If you're going attend a meetup let the host know out of courtesy that you will be there Obviously, RSVPs are just a gauge but we want to let a host have some kind of idea in mind of who and how many people are going to show up.
02:54 THC isn't the biggest network, but it's what we got. And so I hope that we can take the podcast from an isolating solo experience and actually connect some people together to talk about how they might be able to help each other navigate these troubled times or at least provide each other with some sane company I remember the feeling that my thoughts and opinions and interests were unpopular being a big part of the fuel that got this show going. And look at us now! So, that's it really just HiresideMeetups.com... ...and i'll probably mention events in the wrap-ups of most shows if we get some going
